After working as a porter at a posh London hotel, Guccio Gucci decided to return to Italy to open his own shop of fine leather goods in 1921. Based in Florence, the company has gone through a few highs and lows through the years but is flourishing well into the 21st century. This year, they are celebrating their 100th anniversary as a brand and fashion icon. We feature a wide selection of Gucci bags, and today we’re going to look at some of the traits that make them stand out from the crowd.
Signature Logo
The GG logo is recognizable throughout the world, and it comes very simply from the initials of its founder. It wasn’t ubiquitous until the 1960’s, when consumers were all too eager to show off the label. It was, and still is, considered a symbol to show off whose brand you’re carrying. As a side note, all the bags we carry here at King’s Kloset, including Gucci and many others, are guaranteed authentic.
Signature Stripes
The green and red stripes often found on a Gucci handbag are a callback to Gucci’s original roots making saddles. A small belt called a “web” runs under the horse in order to hold the saddle in place. The red and green colors were very common in Britain where Gucci worked in the early years of the 20th century. This design flair has worked its way onto many of the modern and classic handbags we’ve seen from Gucci throughout the years, including many that adorn the cases here at King’s Kloset.
